Study Abroad & Service Trips

Service Immersions

December Trips:

PJC offers a study abroad opportunity in conjunction with University Ministry.

Each year over 150 DePaul students choose to dedicate their Spring or Winter break to service, reflection, simplicity, community, spirituality and social justice during a Service Immersion. YOU have the opportunity to serve, live, and build relationships with more than 15 marginalized communities throughout the United States and the Americas.

A section of PAX 212 Social Justice & Social Change is available for pre-trip credit. Students may also choose to do a 2-credit post-trip course in winter with the faculty member on the trip.

El Salvador- Share the lives and history of the people of El Salvador for ten days. You will live with families of San Jacinto, a Vincentian parish located on the outskirts of San Salvador. There you may serve in the parish day care center, an elderly care center, an orphanage and/or other ministries with the Daughters of Charity. Service will also include learning about and listening to the stories of the people you will meet; what their lives were like before teh Civil War, during the war (1980-1992) and since the peace accords of 1992. You will also have the opportunity to visit historical and spiritual sites, including memorial sites of people executed because of their oppositon to human rights abuses and violent repression by the military during the 1970's and 80's.

Colombia: A Paradoxical Reality (Bogota, Colombia)
All realities are paradoxical. Come and see one vivid example of the beauty and ugliness of a country. Immerse yourself in the complexities of Latin America with our Vincentian family in Bogota, Colombia. Colombia represents a great opportunity to explore a country that concentrates most of the problems of Latin America – civil war, drugs, extreme right paramilitary, extreme left guerrillas, systematic violation of human rights, internal displacement. The opportunities Colombia offers for this analysis are unique due to its long history and struggles for peace, justice, and respect for human dignity. The organizations we are collaborating with have a long, rich experience difficult to find in other places in the world. Be a part of accompanying the Vincentian ministries in Colombia!
