Tech Use in Transit

Is Portable Technology Changing How Americans Travel?
December 2009

In late 2009, we began a comprehensive look at how portable electronic technology is affecting the mode choices of travelers, with particular attention to free WiFi offered on some services. This analysis includes data on the intercity bus industry's growth during 2009, when we began collecting data on technology use among passengers on the French TGV, Eurostar, and Spanish AVE trains, and expanded our sample of Amtrak observations.

The data collected from this project is the basis of an academic journal article written by Chaddick Director, Dr. Joseph Schwieterman, that is undergoing the formal review process.

The Chaddick staff is available for informational requests and interviews about our research at chaddick@depaul.edu or 312.362.5731.
