The Chaddick Institute’s research on intercity bus service consists primarily of three major publications for which links are provided below. Most of our research on the resurgence of intercity motor coach travel can be found in The Return of the Intercity Bus, completed in January 2008. Our 2008 Update is a supplement that outlines the sector’s growth during the remainder of that calendar year.
In late 2009, we began a comprehensive look at how portable electronic technology is affecting the mode choices of travelers, with particular attention to the free Wi Fi on some service. This analysis, entitled Is Portable Technology Changing How Americans Travel? (completed in December 2009) includes data on the intercity bus industry’s growth during 2009. This year, we began collecting data on technology use among passengers on the French TGV, Eurostar, and Spanish AVE trains, and expanded our sample of Amtrak observations.
The Chaddick staff is available for informational requests and interviews about our research. Please email chaddick@depaul.edu or call 312/362-5731
