About the Graduate Program

The degree of master’s of science in chemistry is designed to prepare students for advanced work in the profession of Chemistry, Biochemistry or Coatings Technology and for further graduate study. To allow students who work full time to pursue a M.S. at DePaul, all classes are offered at night or on weekends.

Students planning to integrate a B.S. and M.S. degree program at DePaul should inquire of the chair of the department of chemistry as undergraduate juniors whether they can begin studies in the graduate school that are applicable toward a master’s of science.

For admission, students must have the following:

  • Physics, with laboratory: One year
  • General Chemistry: One year
  • Organic Chemistry: One year, including spectral analysis
  • Physical Chemistry: One year
  • Inorganic Chemistry: One upper-level course

Students have up to three quarters (one year) to study English intensely and raise their TOEFL score to 590, at which time they may begin the Chemistry M.S. program. For questions about this program, contact either the graduate program director or the ELA director.)
