A leading scholar in Asian American studies, Executive Editor of Journal of Asian American Studies, and author of eleven books and over hundred articles, Professor Huping Ling of Truman State University will present her newly published book Chinese Chicago: Race, Transnational Migration, and Community since 1870 (Stanford University Press, 2012), from the three Moy brothers in the 1870s to the present Chinese Chicagoland. In her presentation, Ling will focus on how race, transnational migration, and community defined the lives of Chinese women in the great American Midwestern metropolis, Chicago.

   Winter Quarter History Faculty Research Workshops

Class Conflict, Boredom, and Automobiles!

Join us for the winter quarter History Department Faculty Research Workshops.

Our first workshop will feature Associate Professor Jim Wolfinger and his paper "It Was Nothing Short of War: Street Railways and the Spread of Class Conflict in Early Twentieth Century Philadelphia," this Friday, January 13, from 1-2PM.

Additional workshops will be:

   Friday 2/10, 11-12pm, Chris Stacey, "The Boring Twenties and the Paradigmatic Thirties: American Boredom and its Cultural Consequences"

Friday 3/2, 1-2pm, Rob Buerglener, "The Senses and Sensibilities of Early Automobile Users"

All meetings will be held in 2320 N. Kenmore, SAC 432 on DePaul's Lincoln Park Campus. Papers will be emailed to participants one week prior to the workshop. Guests may request a copy of the paper by emailing history [at] depaul [dot] edu.

   Eighth Annual Student History Conference

The Eighth Annual Student History Conference will take place on April 27, 2012 at the Lincoln Park Campus Student Center.
