Marixsa Alicea received her Ph.D. in sociology from Northwestern University. She is Dean of the School for New Learning at DePaul University. She is the co-author of Surviving Heroin: Interviews of Women in Methadone Clinics and co-editor of Migration and Immigration: A Global View. She has also published articles concerning women and drug use, the Puerto Rican transnational experience, adult education and teaching strategies. She teaches courses focusing on immigration issues and U.S. Latina women's lives.
