Avery was educated at the Pennsylvania State University. He teaches and conducts research in the areas of Late Modern Philosophy, particularly Kant, and Phenomenology, focusing on issues concerning both epistemology and aesthetics. He has recently published an article in Kant Studies as well as articles in collections such as the Proceedings of the International Kant Congress, and the Internationales Jahrbuch für Hermeneutik, and has one forthcoming in Kant-Studien. Avery was a Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow at Fordham University. He is currently completing a book manuscript entitled Kant and the Orientation of Critique, which deals with the question of method in transcendental philosophy.
