Welcome! DePaul University introduced an undergraduate interdisciplinary major in Public Policy Studies in the 1997-1998 academic year. The curriculum introduces students to key public policy concerns in the areas of Environmental policy and Urban policy, identifies fundamental conceptual tools in the development and analysis of public policies, and provides a foundation in basic policy theory and research methods. Today the Department of Public Policy has five full time faculty, two adjuncts who return each year, and several visiting lecturers that teach special topics courses.
Currently there are over 100 student who major or take a minor in Public Policy Studies. Students who major in Public Policy Studies have a variety of career options. Traditionally, this has been a field leading to work in governmental settings, but in recent years the proliferation of community-based organizations and other non-profit groups have opened up new occupational opportunities for students with training in specific public policy fields or public policy analysis.
Public Policy is also a useful undergraduate major for students intending to pursue graduate training in the social sciences, law, business, as well as various specialized policy areas.
