Professor Scott earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology and her MA in Sociology from the University of Illinois, Chicago. As Assistant Director, she attends to students’ academic concerns; she teaches core courses in research, the three sectors, policy, and ethics.  She has taught the policy course from a comparative perspective in Dublin, Ireland in each of the past four summers. Dr. Scott’s primary areas of interest are field-based research, higher education, and community mental health.  Papers in these areas of expertise include “Holism and Transformation: A Design for the Future”, “Higher Education Community: A Crisis in Legitimacy or Creative Break-through?”, and “The Elderly Patient as a Person”. Prior to 1996 when Scott began her career at DePaul University, she was a tenured faculty member at Barat College, an Instructor at UIC, and a secondary and elementary teacher in the Archdiocese of Chicago.  She held administrative positions as Vice President and Dean of Faculty at St Xavier University and division director at Barat College. Dr. Scott has served on a number of nonprofit boards and has assisted the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association as a consultant-evaluator.  She is currently a member of the Conference for Mercy Higher Education, the national board overseeing the 16 colleges and universities sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
