In general, the advanced research and writing skills required of Women’s and Gender Studies majors prepare you for a broad range of careers and opportunities. A B.A. can lead to a variety of career paths. For instance, graduates in Women’s and Gender Studies have worked for Habitat for Humanity, Chicago Foundation for Women, Rape Victim Advocates, Apna Ghar Domestic Violence Agency, the Cook County Commission on the Status of Women, Howard Brown Health Center, Broadway Youth Center, and other non-profit organizations. Women’s and Gender Studies graduates also have gone on to graduate school to continue their studies in Women’s and Gender Studies or another field of their interest, while others have enrolled in professional schools, such as law, social work and medicine. Yes! And it is very easy to double major. Many students in Women’s and Gender Studies choose a double-major to strengthen their academic background and their interests. If you are interested in double-majoring, contact the Program Office to set up a meeting with a faculty advisor.
There are many student groups with a social justice, Women’s and Gender Studies focus. For example, Iota Iota Iota (Women’s and Gender Studies Undergraduate Honor Society), Feminist Front, and SPECTRUM, among others. For more information, contact the Office of Student Life.
