This special one-day site visit for SPS students is a unique opportunity to learn about the various components of municipal government in action. Participants will meet with Department heads ranging from the offices of City Management; Finance; Community & Economic Development; Public Safety; and Public Works; to hear about their work and have the opportunity to ask questions. Join our delegation to the Wisconsin capital to see remarkable urban planning initiatives underway!  Delegates arrange their own travel to Madison on Thursday evening  (10/13) and take part in a full day of visits and meetings on Friday (10/14).  Cost is $25 and includes double-occupancy hotel, breakfast and lunch; day trip tickets available for $15.  Open to students and alums.  This trip is co-sponsored by the School of Public Service. We are pleased to sit on the host committee of this important Shared Use Mobility Center event bringing together experts from across the country to discuss the latest developments in bikesharing, carsharing, ride-hailing, and more. Aesthetics & Aging: Design for Suburban Senior Living (9:30 - 11:30 a.m.)
As our population ages, the development of senior housing facilities has boomed. The infill development of these facilities in suburban downtowns presents a unique challenge for planners, designers, and municipalities. They also present an opportunity to put many of the ideals of urbanism to work and help us explore the public health aspect of planning. A panel of local planners, architects, attorneys, and urban designers will discuss these issues as well as how they are addressing senior housing developments in their communities.​ Register to attend by emailing​

The 6th Annual Lunch Lecture by DePaul University's International Aviation Law Institute (IALI) and Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development will feature speaker, Katherine W. Schweit, who heads the FBI's national Active Shooter Initiative and will share timely analysis for security strategies relevant to all transportation modes.
