The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is the foundational college of DePaul. We offer a diverse
portfolio of programs in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Multidisciplinary Studies. We also serve the entire university through our courses in the Liberal Studies and University Honors programs (our names for "general education"). We are devoted to the life of the mind as well as the Vincentian missions of service and social justice.
Our success is largely founded on our
faculty and
staff who share the university's values, vision, and enthusiasm for learning. Through their scholarship and creative work, our faculty shape their fields of expertise and apply the latest knowledge and methods in their classes.
All of our degree-granting programs seek to enhance student knowledge and critical thinking skills, to raise questions of value and meaning, and to develop those habits of the heart and mind intrinsic to lifelong and independent learning. For more on my take on the value of the Liberal Arts, I hope you will enjoy viewing this
TEDx Talk.
Our
alumni form a vast and impressive network of professionals, many of whom continue to support the college in various ways, not least of which is mentoring current students.
We teach classes and present events on both of DePaul’s main campuses — in the residential and commercial neighborhood of Lincoln Park, and in the center of downtown, the Loop. We also deliver a robust portfolio of online courses that provide additional flexibility in the busy schedules of our students.
I hope you have the opportunity to get to know us better by way of a
campus visit, by partaking in some of our many events, or by contacting us for more information. We look forward to getting to know you, too.
Sincerely,
Guillermo Vásquez de Velasco, PhD
Dean and Professor of The Art School
