On February 26, 2026, the DePaul Humanities Center hosted an insightful event titled Censorship and related acts of authoritarian desperation as part of the PRESENT TENSE series. Moderated by Ann Russo, the panel featured experts Michael Berry, Sarah Schulman, and Brenda Muñoz. Together, they examined how censorship restricts access to vital information and undermines democratic discourse. By framing censorship as a critical issue for society, the discussion highlighted the need for meaningful dialogue in today's world. This event was presented in partnership with The Dialogue Collaborative, the Department of Modern Languages, the Department of Latin American and Latino Studies, The Women's Center, and the Society of Vincent De Paul Professors.
On October 29, 2025, the DePaul Humanities Center hosted an important event titled The Nobel Peace Prize and Nuclear Legacies: The 80th Anniversary of Alamogordo and Hiroshima. This program welcomed the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize laureate organization, Nihon Hidankyo. The discussion featured Satoshi Tanaka, a Hiroshima survivor, journalist, and representative of Nihon Hidankyo, with interpretation provided by Norma Field, Professor Emerita at the University of Chicago. Joining the conversation was Myrriah Gomez, author of Nuclear Nuevo Mexico and Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico. Held at the DePaul LPC Student Center, this event invited the public to engage with the historical and ongoing impacts of nuclear weapons.
