The Lab

GIS Lab 3135 holds eighteen student workstations and one instructor station. All are Windows machines with dual monitors, configured for GIS work.

The lab is open to students enrolled in Geography and GIS courses for coursework and research.

The department also maintains a smaller advanced workstation space for graduate research and senior-level project work, available by arrangement through the department.

Hours and access

  • The lab is card-accessible during 990 W. Fullerton building hours. A DePaul ID is required to enter the building. Check current building hours.
  • The lab is closed whenever campus is closed.
  • If your ID card does not open the lab door, email gis@depaul.edu with your name, DePaul ID number, and course section to be added.
  • The door sticks occasionally. Swipe, push in, then pull.
  • When a class is scheduled in the lab, the room is reserved for that section. Scheduled class times are set through the department when courses are posted.  See GEO GIS Lab 3135 Weekly Schedule.
Software

The lab workstations run ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and QGIS, along with supporting statistics, analysis, and design software. For the full software list, visit GEO GIS Lab Current Software List.

Save your work elsewhere:
Lab machines are re-imaged between quarters and local files may be wiped without notice. Save to OneDrive, your network drive, or external media.

Using the GEO-GIS lab or GIS software for non-GEO faculty, students and researchers:
The lab is available by request for collaborative use with other DePaul groups and external partners with an existing arrangement with the department, subject to university policy.

DePaul’s ArcGIS licensing is limited, so accounts for faculty, staff, and researchers outside the department are issued by request and coordinated with Information Services. Email gis@depaul.edu to start that conversation. See the FAQ for details.

GIS Tutoring
