Heather Smith is a Senior Program Officer at the Field Foundation of Illinois, and has worked in philanthropy since 2013. Prior to the Field Foundation, Heather served as the Planning Director for the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU)
coordinating planning and urban design charrettes and member initiatives. Before joining CNU, she coordinated the Metropolis Plan activities for Chicago Metropolis 2020; a business based regional planning organization. Prior to her work in Chicago, Heather received an American Planning Association fellowship to advance sustainable development and planning in the United States Senate.
She is a member of Chicago Women in Philanthropy and the American Planning Association and was nominated to Lambda Alpha Land Economics Society Ely Chapter. She also serves on the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Land Use Committee. Heather is an adjunct faculty member in DePaul University’s Geography Department teaching three courses per year.
Heather holds a master’s degree in urban planning from Columbia University in the City of New York and a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and Japanese from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN.
