GTU Honor Society

The DePaul University Department of Geography is a member (Chapter Mu Alpha) of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the International Geographic Honor Society. Gamma Theta Upsilon membership is earned through superior undergraduate scholarship; it is an honor, and a professional distinction that is available to outstanding Geography majors and minors.

Membership Requirements

To be considered eligible for GTU membership, students must have:

  • completed of three (3) geography courses;
  • completed five (5) quarters of college course work;
  • a 3.3 GPA in all geography courses completed;
  • a 3.3 GPA overall.

Benefits of GTU Membership

  • Members may apply for GTU-sponsored internships (offered through the GTU website). 
  • Members can participate in numerous extra-curricular activities.
  • Membership provides a network where you can become better acquainted with other geography students and can meet and talk with geography faculty informally.
  • Members can improve their expertise in the field of geography by learning things not normally dealt with in the classroom.
  • Members are eligible to apply for Gamma Theta Upsilon scholarships.
  • Membership in an academic honor society is evidence of your dedication and competency in your career field. Some employers give hiring preference to honor society members.
  • Members are eligible to recieve and publish in the Geographical Bulletin scholarly journal.
  • Members have the opportunity to promote geography both on and off campus.
