Erika L. Sánchez

Erika L. Sánchez is the daughter of Mexican immigrants. A poet, essayist, and fiction writer, she is the author of the young adult novel​ I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, a 2017 finalist for the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and instant New York Times Best-Seller; and the poetry collection, Lessons on Expulsion, a finalist for the PEN America Open Book Award. She is a recent recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts in Poetry, was a 2017-2019 Princeton Arts Fellow, and is currently the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz chair at DePaul University. Her memoir, Crying in the Bathroom, is forthcoming from Viking in July 2022, and I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter  will be made into a Netflix feature film directed by America Ferrera.​​
