This interdisciplinary department cultivates critical thinking on gender, sexuality, language, race, ethnicity, class, religion and indigeneity, and it emphasizes community engagement and social justice pedagogies and scholarship. Our programs equip students with much needed cultural competences that will prepare them well for leadership positions in both the public and private sectors and/or for work in graduate education.
Examine the multicultural relationship between peoples and cultures of Latin America, and explore the profound linkage that has emerged between Latin America and the United States, particularly through the construction of Latino communities in the U.S.
Gain a comprehensive understanding of Latinos/as culturally and historically—locally, nationally and globally—while also developing critical communication skills that apply to organizational, community or media settings.
