Academic advising is critical to academic success for all graduate students in the School of Public Service. The Assistant Director for Academic Advising and faculty advisors/mentors work together to provide high quality advising service to help students achieve their academic, co-curricular, and career goals from the introductory course through degree conferral. Life in Chicago

Pursue your graduate degree in internationally renowned Chicago. Though we are the third largest city in the United States, but we will always be the Second City.

The School of Public Service, located on DePaul University's bustling Loop campus, is just steps from the Art InstituteMillennium Park, the Lake Michigan shoreline, public transportation, and a dizzying array of restaurantsshoppingnightlife and more. Regardless of the neighborhood you choose to call home,  a quick bus or "El" ride can take you to Wrigley Field, the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Music Box TheatreSteppenwolf Theatre CompanyHouse of BluesNavy Pier, and dozens of other attractions. 

We are host to hundreds of conferences, sports games, fairs, festivals and events each year, but most importantly, the education and opportunities available to our students as a result of our location are unparalleled.

Student Life

Student​s relocating to Chicago will find the city provides ample housing options.

  • Off Campus: Graduate students typically live off campus in apartments located close to public transit. Students generally settle in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, Lake View, Wrigleyville, Old Town, Gold Coast, and Wicker Park neighborhoods.  Each neighbor offers a variety of public transit, cultural events, and conveniences for residents. Students with questions regarding neighborhoods or amenities should consult DePaul’s off campus housing website or search for an apartment through the Chicago Reader Apartment Finder.
  • On Campus: DePaul also off graduate housing in the Loop and Lincoln Park neighborhoods for students interested in the convenience of furnished apartments.  For information about on-campus options consult DePaul’s housing options website.​

DePaul recognizes students living offers campus use public transit as their main form of transportation to and from classes. Through a partnership with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), DePaul University is able to offer students a U-Pass during the academic term for one-time fee, included in tuition. The U-Pass  provides full-time students with unlimited rides on CTA vehicles.​


The School of Public Service is housed in DePaul’s Loop Campus. The Loop Campus, named for its position within Chicago’s circular train tracks, is in the heart of Chicago’s business district. Students are just steps away public transportation, the Chicago stock exchange, the Harold Washington Library, Orchestra Hall and a wealth of cultural and historical sites.​

Graduate Student Support

The Graduate Student Services Office assists students in the graduate programs of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences throughout their academic careers.  From orientation to graduation, the Graduate Student Services Office is dedicated to helping students meet their educational goals.

Adult, Veteran and Commuter Student Services provides programs and services for all graduate students. These include community building events, academic support, social networking and a strong network of partners for service referrals. Students can review and purchase required textbooks at the Barnes and Noble Loop location, on the first floor of the DePaul Center or online through the Loop Barnes and Noble website.​

Center for Writing-based Learning

The Center for Writing-based Learning welcomes students at any stage of the writing process to work one-on-one with a writing consultant.​​

Library and Computer Labs

DePaul's Loop Library, on the tenth floor of the DePaul Center, houses a vast collection of periodicals, online databases, and offers student one-on-one research consultations. To schedule an individual research appointment, or access the libraries online resources click here.

DePaul's Loop campus has four computer labs in the Lewis Building and the DePaul Center with more than 250 computers available for student use with DePaul ID. An active Demon Express account is required to print in each computer lab. For more information about campus printing services click here.​

DePaul ID Benefits​

The Demon Discounts website is dedicated to providing discounted products and services to the university community from vendors who provide support to DePaul University.

Over one hundred discounts are available to DePaul students, families, alumni, faculty, staff and others on on food, technology and entertainment.​

Financial Aid

DePaul's Office of Financial Aid administers a variety of loan and work programs for graduate students. 

The School of Public Service, DePaul University and many other sources offer merit- and need-based financial aid and scholarship opportunities for students to make graduate school possible.

Also, to help you fit the cost of graduate school within your budget, DePaul provides several methods of payment. 

  • The DePaul University Payment Plan allows you to pay tuition and other expenses in monthly installments over a nine-month period. 
  • The DePaul Payment Plan for Employer Reimbursement allows you to extend payment of tuition until after grade reports are mailed, since many employer reimbursement plans are based on grades.

Fitness Center

The Ray Meyer Fitness Center, located in Lincoln Park, offers full-time graduate students a discounted membership with student ID.​


The U-Pass  provides full-time students with unlimited rides on Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Through a partnership with the CTA, DePaul University is able to offer students a U-Pass during the academic term for a one-time fee, included in tuition. DePaul's 10-year relationship with the CTA allows students to commute between home and classes, as well as throughout Chicago twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. ​
