Anthropology is the comparative study of humanity, focusing on people in all places and throughout history and prehistory. The study of anthropology at DePaul is designed to be different while keeping the essentials of an undergraduate degree in anthropology.
At its core, anthropology is the study of humanity from a comparative perspective that encourages people to value different ways of living and understand cultures on their own terms. This perspective infuses our courses and invites students to engage in the analysis of beliefs, values, and practices using the tools and perspectives provided by anthropology. Frequent opportunities for self-reflection encourage students to use these same tools and perspectives to understand their own cultures.
Our anthropology major is unique in its focus on “doing" anthropology. Anthropology majors will have several experiential courses where they are learning how to execute methods and apply theory in simulated and real-world situations. Our courses on applied practice connect our students to communities in Chicago, and many of our other core and elective courses offer chances to develop skills and gain experience that allow them to enter into the workforce with a distinctive resume and versatile skills in qualitative methods and communicating research results.
Transfer Student Friendly
The curriculum in the BA in Anthropology is a convenient, fast-track option for transfer students. The entire major can be accomplished in two years, especially if all of your IAI (Illinois Articulation Initiative) courses have been completed at your current school.
