Garrett Johnson

​​Garrett Johnson received his MA in International Studies from DePaul University and his PhD in Political Science from the University of Minnesota. His doctoral research examined how 20th-century Black thinkers used the framework of exile to reimagine anti-racist politics. He currently serves as the Global Programs Manager at Heartland Alliance International, where he oversees a portfolio of projects in conflict-affected regions including Ukraine, Syria, and the Middle East and North Africa. His teaching interests include political theory, race and empire, international relations, policy advocacy, and the intersections of social justice and community development.​
