Speak, translate, teach
Dive into archival research or focus on contemporary Francophone issues. Whatever your passion, explore French language, literature and culture with the flexible MA in French. This degree is ideal for both those who wish to pursue careers in translation, teaching or cultural institutions and for those who are preparing for an academic career.
The program may be completed in two years. Core courses are offered in the evenings, while most elective courses are offered in the afternoon/evening.

Engage locally, think internationally
Apply your linguistic expertise as a volunteer, contributor, intern or employee at sites across the city such as Alliance Française, the Consulat Général de France à Chicago and Lycée Chicago as part of our service-learning experience.
Application Deadlines
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, though we encourage you to submit materials at least two months prior to the quarter in which you wish to enroll.
Admission Requirements
Submit an online application, language proficiency test scores, letters of recommendation, letters of application, and complete an interview with a faculty member in our French program.

Engage in projects with world-class faculty
Study with faculty like Professor Pascale-Anne Brault, recipient of the Chevalier dans l’Ordre du Mérite and Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques. She partnered with students to translate DePaul’s rare Napoleon Collection of more than 4,000 volumes related to Napoleon’s life and campaign—the second-largest such collection in the United States.
“I volunteer as a translator and interpreter for agencies providing services to immigrants and asylum seekers in Chicago, and I also participate in translation projects of historical documents. My French reading, writing and speaking skills were much improved by my student experience at DePaul. The faculty are actively engaged with students and find creative ways to improve the learning experience.”
