Our History
Studio χ (CHI: Computing/Humanities Interface) was launched in January 2017 as an initiative of the Office of Academic Affairs, co-sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (LAS), the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM), and the University Library. From the beginning, the Studio was envisioned as a collaborative space combining computation with a commitment to the humanities.
Our Mission
The Studio is a center for faculty development, fostering and supporting research at the interface between humanities and computing. By foregrounding techniques such as digital mapping, text and data mining, 3-D modeling, data visualization, and digital storytelling, the Studio offers faculty new ways to approach their research and teaching.
Our Mission is thus threefold:
- To stimulate and support research that brings together humanities and computational approaches and strengthens dialogue between faculty across DePaul's colleges and campuses
- To build capacity for digital humanities (DH) research and teaching
- To launch DH programs and projects that will promote growth in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and help position our college as a hub for innovation within the university.
