Nick Kachiroubas

Nick Kachiroubas is an Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Public Service at DePaul University in Chicago and is on leave in Fall 2023. He began teaching at as an adjunct professor in the Summer of 2012 and was appointed a full-time member of the teaching faculty in the fall of 2012. Dr. Kachiroubas’ current research interests include Leadership and the role of the Chief of Staff to the President of the United States; leadership in Public Service; a variety of issues related to Suburban Municipal Administration. He regularly provides nonpartisan expert commentary regarding local, state, and federal elections as well as leadership in government and public policy issues for a variety of media entities.

In his role as Associate Teaching Professor, Dr. Kachiroubas has taught a variety of courses in the School of Public Service but mainly focuses on Leadership Development, Organizational behavior in the Public Sector, Ethics, Local Government Administration, public policy. He is director of the School’s Northern Ireland Short Term Study Abroad Program and coordinates the authentic conversation and authentic experiences opportunities which provide opportunities for students to interact with notable public service leaders and gain a broader perspective of government in action.

Dr. Kachiroubas received his Ph.D. in Leadership Learning and Service from Cardinal Stritch University and a M.A. in Organizational Leadership from Lewis University. Prior to that he earned a B.A. in History from the University of Illinois at Springfield, an and A.S. from McHenry County College. In 2017, Dr. Kachiroubas was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Award to Panama where he working to develop leaders in public administration in cooperation with the University La Antiqua Santa Maria during the summer months of 2017 to 2019.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Kachiroubas is also City Clerk for the City of Crystal Lake, Illinois, and a member of the Illinois Community College Board. Dr. Kachiroubas previously served as a member of the Crystal Lake Police Pension Board and a trustee for McHenry County College where he was first elected at the age of 19. The previous year he had served as the student trustee for the college district. Dr. Kachiroubas has served on numerous nonprofit boards over the year’s but especially enjoyed his time on the boards of the America’s Cardboard Cup Regatta and the Crystal Lake Park Foundation. In his leisure time Dr. Kachiroubas enjoys traveling and sailing.
