2025 Joseph Cardinal Bernadin Jerusalem Lecture Join Dr. Ruth Langer, professor of Jewish studies and associate director the Center for Christian-Jewish Learning at Boston College, for this discussion. Immense goodwill accompanied the initial moves to implement the teachings of Vatican II’s Nostra Aetate about Jews and Judaism. But this process proved to be far from simple, presenting regular challenges. Where have we come, what have we learned, and what remains to be done?

Fr. James Ponniah (University of Madras—Chennai, India) discusses the missionary work of Fr. James Tombeur, a Belgian missionary who lived and ministered over 50 years among the poor of south India's Tamil Nadu state. Fr. Ponniah explores the dynamic, intercultural strategies Tombeur employed to respond to the needs of the people he served (e.g., starting coops for palm tree climbers and fishermen) and how those efforts led as much to Tombeur's own personal, holistic development as they did to that of the local people.
