Student Fellows

Each year, HumanitiesX selects DePaul students to join the Collaborative as Student Fellows. Beginning in January 2022, six Student Fellows will join teams of Faculty Fellows and Community Fellows as they develop and deliver new courses on the annual theme, Immigration and Migration. To be eligible, students must be pursuing a major, minor, or master's degree in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

Student Fellows will be assigned, in pairs, to join one of the three teams of fellows, each composed of two faculty members and a representative of a community organization, as these teams design and deliver a HumanitiesX course for the spring quarter. This year's courses include:

  • ART 395/MSW 450: Honoring Immigrant Stories: Employing Media to Promote Human Rights
  • HST 329/REL 305: Geographies of Displacement: Migration and Immigration in Atomic-Age Art
  • ENG 376/HST 391: Publishing Immigrants' Oral Histories: The Art of Listening & Telling.

Responsibilities Overview

In the winter quarter, Student Fellows will participate in trainings and planning sessions with their team and the full HumanitiesX cohort; work with the HumanitiesX Faculty Director to develop individual goals and pursue supplementary activities or training linked to their team's course; and devise a plan to document and share the activities of the spring quarter courses.

In the spring quarter, Student Fellows will continue this work, plus provide support for their team of fellows by attending select class sessions, providing logistical help, and contributing ideas to student teams as they develop community projects. The work of the summer session is to complete any unfinished projects from the HumanitiesX courses, contribute to a multimedia showcase of the year's courses, and to develop a reflective portfolio of one's work and learning as a Student Fellow.

HumanitiesX Student Fellows work approximately 15 hours per week in the winter and spring quarters and sixty hours total in summer session 1. We hope to onboard fellows who can commit to the full duration of the fellowship. Fellows will be paid $16.50/hour. To learn more about the duties, responsibilities, and requirements, please visit the listing on the DePaul Campus Job Board (search for "HumanitiesX").
