About

Founded in 1993, the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development is located on DePaul University's Loop Campus in Downtown Chicago.

Chaddick Institute

Chaddick offers students and professionals in planning, design, and development a forum to network and share expertise on urban planning issues through events, study trips, workshops, and research. A diverse array of publications and books on planning and transportation topics have been produced by Chaddick researchers, and the institute is regularly quoted by national news organizations. Learn more about our staff here.

In recent years, the institute has hosted educational events in cooperation with the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association, the High Speed Rail Alliance, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, Lambda Alpha International, DePaul's Real Estate Center, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Scenic Illinois and other organizations. There are a number of opportunities for students to get involved with current planning and development projects.

Most on-campus workshops are held at 14 E. Jackson Boulevard, Suite 1600 in downtown Chicago (the northeast corner of Jackson and State three blocks from the Art Institute of Chicago). Take the elevator to the 16th floor and turn left. Events are also occasionally held nearby at 1 E. Jackson.

Public Transportation: We are located less than a 10 minute walk from Metra's Van Buren Street and LaSalle Street Stations and a 15 minute walk from Union Station and Ogilvie (Northwestern) Station. All CTA rapid-transit lines serving downtown Chicago stop within a few blocks of campus, however the closest stations are Jackson (Red/Blue lines) and Adams & Wabash (Brown/Purple/Orange/Pink/Green lines).

Parking: Parking is available in lots on Wabash Avenue, or in less expensive lots located south of the Congress Expressway.
